A "Preauthorization" is a process used by your health insurer or plan to decide whether a health care service, treatment plan, prescription drug or durable medical equipment is medically necessary. Sometimes called prior authorization, prior approval or precertification. Your traditional health insurance or plan may require preauthorization for certain services before you receive them, except in an emergency. Preauthorization isn’t a promise your health insurance or plan will cover the cost.

For ChoiceCare, SelectCare, DPC and TeleHealth+ there are no preauthorization ever needed for the outpatient services covered. For inpatient or catastrophic care, shared by a Zion membership, there is no formal preauthorization for most services, but if in doubt, be sure to check with Zion or us for any preauthorization needed.  SelectCare DOES REQUIRE preauthorization for certain outpatient services, please refer to the website for more details.
