What is an IUA?
How is it different from a traditional deductible?

An Initial Unsharable Amount or IUA is the amount the member must pay for a catastrophic or high cost health condition, I.e. illness or injury, before Zion picks up the rest at 100%. Currently, AHD members have three (3) levels of IUA's to choose from, $1,000.00, $2500.00, and $5,000.00. NOTE: unlike the deductibles of traditional insurance policies, your Zion IUA is not calendar based, rather it is illness or condition based. Example: Joe discovers he has cancer on November 11th. With a traditional health policy, Joe must pay his $5,000 deductible in November AND again in January because his deductible is calendar based and is due every January. But with his Zion HealthShare, once Joe pays his IUA ($1,000, $2500 or $5,000) all expenses for his cancer are paid for by Zion at 100%. And Joe and his family can only pay three (3x) IUA's in any one year.
